Why did Chelsea become a stumbling hurdle in Wolves’ pursuit of French outstanding talent?

According to Football Insider, Chelsea intervened to prevent Wolves from signing Strasbourg star Habib Diarra during the summer transfer window.

The Midlands club identified Diarra’s potential and made a bid for the 19-year-old, but their offer was rejected.

Chelsea is keeping a close eye on Strasbourg’s finest players, given both clubs are controlled by Todd Boehly’s BlueCo group.

In the following years, the two teams’ relationship will see players go to and from Strasbourg.

Chelsea are thought to regard Diarra as a high talent and were therefore opposed to his joining Wolves during the summer transfer window.

The Senegal-born superstar has appeared in three games for Strasbourg this season, starting two of them.

He made his debut as a 17-year-old in the 2021-22 season, but he did not become a regular for the French club until the following season.

Diarra appeared in 30 games for the Alsace-based club in 2022-23, scoring three goals and assisting three others.

Since graduating from the club’s academy, he has played in a variety of positions, including central midfield, holding midfield, and right flank.

After signing a new deal last year (2022), the 19-year-old is under contract until June 2027.

Chelsea reportedly spent £400 million on new signings during the summer transfer window, including Axel Disasi, Christopher Nkunku, Nicolas Jackson, and Moises Caicedo.

According to Transfermarkt, Mauricio Pochettino’s team has had the youngest roster on average (23.6 years old) this season.

Chelsea’s connection with Strasbourg is in full swing, with Angelo joining the Ligue 1 club on loan from the Londoners in the summer.
