Yes, he was still fantastic, but his actions cost us the game.

Rafael Leao was named UEFA’s Man of the Match against Newcastle yesterday, but the Milan star was heavily chastised by Italian media, with both Gazzetta and Il Corriere dello Sport claiming he was the worst player at San Siro on Tuesday.

UEFA awarded Leao Man Of The Match in Milan’s 1-1 tie with Newcastle. The Technical Observer Panel stated that the Portuguese had been “a constant threat throughout the game.” Quick, strong, with good movement, and a big threat in the box. The Portuguese had solid scoring chances as well.”

The majority of Italian media, however, disagreed with UEFA’s decision. According to Gazzetta and Il Corriere dello Sport, the Portuguese was the worst player on the pitch on Tuesday, according to Wednesday’s Pagelle – Player evaluations.

Both articles mostly condemned Leao for squandering a wonderful opportunity in the first half, when he attempted to score with a backheel shot and fell to the ground. According to Corriere dello Sport, the San Siro crowd muttered and Leao appeared “distracted.”

Tuttosport wasn’t gentle either, with Leao dubbing his attempt at a backheel goal “comical.”

Leao received 4.5 from Gazzetta, 4 from Corriere dello Sport, 5 from Tuttosport, and 5.5 from Football Italia.
