Aston Villa bus attack – four arrested after a gas canister

Four youths were arrested after a gas canister was thrown at a bus transporting Aston Villa players after their match against Burnley FC.

The incident occurred soon before 5.15 p.m. on August 27, following Birmingham’s 3-1 victory over the Clarets at Turf Moor.

At the moment, the coach carrying the Villa squad was approaching junction 10 on the M65.

The canister caused roughly £10,000 in damage to the coach when it hit the windscreen, but no one was hurt.

Four Burnley 14-year-old boys have been detained on suspicion of criminal damage with intent to endanger life.

They were arrested this morning (September 21), and all four are still in detention.

PC “This incident caused damage to the coach and clearly could have resulted in a serious collision,” stated Ross Bosdorff, dedicated football officer for Burnley.

“We took it very seriously, and our investigations have been ongoing ever since.”

“Four boys have been arrested and are being held on suspicion of criminal damage.”

“Our thanks go to those people who provided us with information and CCTV about the incident.

“Anybody with information or video footage, who has not yet spoken to us, is encouraged to get in touch straight away.”
