Real Madrid have identified 44-year-old manager as the perfect replacement for Carlo Ancelotti

According to Cadena SER, Real Madrid is interested in signing Roberto De Zerbi. The Merengues are looking for a replacement for Carlo Ancelotti, who is expected to leave at the end of the 2023/24 season. And the manager of Brighton & Hove Albion has emerged as one of their objectives.

Roberto De Zerbi has had to wait his turn to be recognized as one of the game’s top tacticians. During his football career, he was an attacking midfielder who was a journeyman who did not play for many well-known clubs other than Napoli and thus remained unnoticed.

A decade ago, the 44-year-old entered the business world as a 34-year-old. Before joining Sassuolo, the Italian strategist worked briefly at Darfo Boario, Foggia, Palermo, and Benevento. And it was during his time with the Neroverdi that De Zerbi’s stock began to rise.

As his squad played an exciting kind of football, De Zerbi’s star skyrocketed. And his success at Sassuolo landed him a position at Shakhtar Donetsk. However, his stay in Ukraine was not as beneficial as he would have expected due to the Russia-Ukraine war. However, since leaving Shakhtar Donetsk, he has finally become a household name, with his time at Brighton & Hove Albion already proving fruitful.

After Graham Potter joined Chelsea, the 44-year-old came at the Amex Stadium only a month into the 2022/23 season. But he quickly communicated his ideas to the players, who played some of the finest football in the Premier League last season. He also led Brighton to European qualification, finishing sixth in the Premier League table.

The Seagulls have continued where they left off in the 2023/24 season, climbing into the top four. However, Brighton’s success has drawn further attention to De Zerbi, with Real Madrid identifying him as a target. And if Carlo Ancelotti leaves at the conclusion of the season, Los Blancos may contact the Premier League team.

Ancelotti might become Brazil’s new head coach, with the Selecao still looking for a replacement for Tite. As a result, the Merengues must be vigilant and scan the market for a replacement. According to recent reports, Xabi Alonso might be the future manager of Real Madrid. However, Bayer Leverkusen may fight hard to keep the Spaniard.

So, with De Zerbi now on their managerial shortlist, the Spanish giants must keep their options open. However, it will be interesting to watch if the 44-year-old Brighton manager becomes Real Madrid’s number one priority to replace Ancelotti.
