Leeds United suffers an injury setback, as the squad for the Southampton collision is unveiled.

Patrick Bamford will travel with Daniel Farke to face Southampton in today’s early Championship kick-off. The Leeds United number nine was hurt with a hamstring injury just before the start of the new season and is now close to making his first-team debut after returning to training earlier this month.

Leeds travel to St Mary’s seeking to extend their recent remarkable run of form, which has seen them move into the play-off positions and go six games unbeaten, with no goals surrendered in their past four games. Farke, who praised the former England striker in his pre-match press conference, now has another offensive option in Bamford.

“Sometimes, an injured player plays with more enthusiasm because he’s highly motivated to be back on the pitch,” he stated. “I can tell in practice that Patrick is in a good mood, and he’s a really good player at this level.”

“The last time he played at Championship level, he scored 20 goals and helped this club get promoted.” It’s great to have a player with his experience, talent, and ability back in the mix.”

Joe Rodon, who finished his one-match suspension against Watford last weekend, is expected to join Bamford in the squad. Junior Firpo, Djed Spence, and Wilfried Gnonto are all anticipated back after the international break, but Stuart Dallas has yet to be given a clear timetable despite returning to training after an almost 18-month layoff.

Leeds United squad available for Southampton: Meslier, Ayling, Amapdu, Cresswell, Cooper, Piroe, Kamara, Bamford, Summerville, Anthony, Klaesson, Rodon, Shackleton, James, Struijk, Gray, Rutter, Byram, Poveda, Darlow, Gelhardt, Gruev, Joseph
