‘Outstanding’: Kenny Miller says 25-year-old ‘genius’ does things at Celtic no other player can

Callum McGregor, Matt O’Riley, Reo Hatate, and David Turnbull have all done admirably for Celtic this season.

When you consider the backup alternatives of Tomoki Iwata, Odin Thaigo Holm, and Paulo Bernanrdo, the squad is in an excellent position in terms of depth and talent.

Former Rangers striker Kenny Miller singled out Reo Hatate as one of the most special players Brendan Rodgers has at his disposal.

Miller gushed over the 25-year-old Japanese midfielder after seeing him play against Kilmarnock.

“His goal was outstanding,” Miller recalled of [Clyde SSB]. And, you know, he was engaged in so much of the offensive action that he could have scored another goal or two throughout the game.

“When he plays, I believe he brings something to the team that few other midfielders at Celtic can.”

“He came in like a whirlwind and was fantastic.” What you need to understand is that this guy may have had a close relationship with the former management.

“This guy is a fantastic player.” A standout performer. Celtic performs when he performs.

“So they need him performing at that level to probably see that level of performances and he’ll bring the best out of others as well.”

Over the last year and a half, the Japanese midfielder has been crucial for Celtic. Hatate, who joined the Hoops in January 2022, had an immediate impression under Ange Postecoglou.

Hatate’s dominance of the Celtic midfield was essential for the Australian manager, as he won a double in his first half-season with the club.

That dominance continued in the Treble season, with Hatate remaining a key member of Postecoglou’s squad. Hatate, who was dubbed a ‘genius’ after his performance against Kilmarnock, is again demonstrating why Celtic supporters adore him.

However, the Japanese star’s season has been hit and miss. David Turnbull, who was off of form, was favored in the center of the midfield. But, having resolved his contract concerns with the club, Hatate is back to his best and as sharp as ever.

Celtic fans will be hoping to see their Japanese star return to play following the international break. Let’s hope he returns from Hajime Moriyasu’s squad injury-free.
