Verstappen faces hammer blow as dream Perez replacement put forward

After a two-week vacation from competitive action, F1 drivers should be refreshed and ready to race this weekend. Max Verstappen mathematically secured the title in Qatar last time out, but there is still plenty to compete for in the season’s last five Grands Prix.

For starters, the race for second position in the Drivers’ Championship behind the Dutchman is heating up. The only other two drivers to have won a race this year are Sergio Perez and Carlos Sainz, although the ultra-consistent Lewis Hamilton is also vying for the second step on the podium.

This weekend in Austin, the Mercedes driver will have another chance to score critical points. However, a spectacular set of mid-season developments from McLaren has thrown Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri into the mix as well, with race wins not ruled out.
