The biggest threat to Forest is Cooper’s dismissal, as Nottingham Forest cautioned Steve Cooper of the ‘risk’ of a winless streak.
Nottingham Forest have been cautioned not to “want too much too soon” amid speculation about manager Steve Cooper’s future.
Forest has gone six games without a win. Their most recent match saw them lose 3-0 away to Liverpool. The club’s dismal form has dropped it to 16th position in the table.
It has also resulted in some criticism of manager Cooper from some sections of the fanbase. Forest have only won one home game this season, drawing the last three; they return to the City Ground on Sunday to take on in-form Aston Villa
Michael Brown, a pundit, has shared his thoughts on Forest’s season so far before of that encounter. Forest’s away performances against several of the “big six” have been highlighted by the former midfielder.
“I’ve been reading the criticism around Steve Cooper and how he is not setting the team up right, that he’s not very adventurous, but you have got to look at his record in the Premier League this season,” he said in an interview with BBC Sport.
“They were really unfortunate against Manchester United, they were close against Arsenal, and then there was the Chelsea game that they actually won, so they have been solid away from home.” So, what are you going to do? How much do you alter?
“They were in and around the game against Manchester City and pushed hard.” They caused them a few issues, but you have to say that away from home, they were effective with the strategy they used.”
The former Leeds United, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City player also warned Forest not to make any rash judgments on the management. He has asked the club to be patient with him, as they were last season.
“Cooper has had a lot of injuries and staff changes this season,” Brown continued. I believe he is a terrific coach, and I believe everyone at Forest must be patient. You must exercise caution not to desire too much too quickly that is the danger.
