The Cottagers are facing a battle to hang onto one of their prized assets as they prepare to lose one of their first-team players next year

Fulham may lose one of their first-team players next season, according to a credible journalist, who claims he is desired by a major club overseas before the start of the season.

Marco Silva’s team has had a terrible start to the new Premier League season, having won three, drawn three, and lost four of their first 10 games, leaving them 14th in the table.
The Cottagers are currently seven points above the relegation zone, so if this trend continues between now and the future transfer window, the board will have to consider selling some players to replace them with stronger ones.

Rodrigo Muniz joined the club from Flamengo in 2021, and he’s since made 35 appearances for the club after being loaned out to Championship side Middlesbrough last season (Transfermarkt – Muniz statistics), but he’s recently fallen out of favour.

The Brazilian striker has made zero starts and four substitute appearances in the Premier League this season (WhoScored – Muniz statistics), and his fall down the pecking order looks to have piqued the interest of a new fan abroad.

According to Thiago Fernandes of Goal Brasil (via Sport Witness), Atletico Madrid is planning a January bid for Muniz. The La Liga club is “preparing an offer” for the centre-forward, which is expected to be in the region of €4 million (£3 million) at the start of next year.

Diego Simeone’s team has yet to make a formal approach or commence talks to determine the terms of a deal, but if his game time does not improve, this could be a situation to keep an eye on in the coming weeks and months.

Muniz was branded a “revelation” by football talent scout Jacek Kulig during his time at Flamengo, and while he has yet to recreate that kind of prolific form at Fulham, Silva should surely keep him in the building and give him more minutes.

The Puma-sponsored attacker has only scored six goals for the club so far, but scoring during Wednesday evening’s 3-1 Carabao Cup victory over Ipswich Town just shows that he is capable of performing if he is given a regular run in the team where he can showcase his talent.

Muniz also helped the club achieve promotion back to the Premier League in his debut season at Craven Cottage, so he knows what it takes to be successful and possesses the winning mentality needed to improve results right now, so it would be a mistake for the hierarchy to allow him to leave in January, especially when the current forward options aren’t exactly banging the goals in.
