Celtic Director reveals Recommended Player for Rodgers’ who ‘Can Make Difference

Celtic had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Atlético Madrid in the Champions League last month at Celtic Park. Brendan Rodgers’ side will face Los Rojiblancos in Madrid on Tuesday.

Luis Palma scored against the La Liga side at Celtic Park, and he’ll be hoping to do so again for Rodgers’ side tomorrow.

Mundo Deportivo spoke with former Celtic star Emilio Izaguirre ahead of the European clash. He’s currently the sporting director at Motagua, a Honduran club, and Mundo wanted his thoughts on the 23-year-old.

Rodgers’ side signed Palma from Aris in the previous transfer window, and Izaguirre has now revealed that he was the one who approached Celtic about signing the 23-year-old earlier this year.

Izaguirre has firsthand knowledge of the winger from his time with Honduras’ national team.

“He was on the Honduran national team with me in 2019.” He was just starting out, I believe he was 18 at the time. He was later at Vida, but when we wanted to bring him to Motagua, he went to Aris. “And then Celtic signed him,” he explained.

“In March, I was playing in a legends match between Celtic and Liverpool. “I met Michael (club director) and suggested Palma and other players such as Elis or Lozano.”I told Luis that they would look at him and that he was a player who could be very useful to the club. He’s a young 22-year-old [now 23-year-old] player who can have a great season and then be sold.”

Palma has had a strong start to his Celtic career, scoring five goals and assisting four times in 15 games this season. His Honduran compatriot has heaped praise on his qualities and versatility.

“Technically excellent. On set pieces or long-range shots, he can make a difference. Few players have the framework mapped out in their heads like him. It makes a difference to have players like that who can score goals from 35 meters away.”

Izaguirre believes Celtic can get a result against Diego Simeone’s side, and he also believes Palma can find the back of the net again.
