Arsenal ready to postpone signing new striker until summer following major development

Following Thomas Partey’s injury, Arsenal are ready to put their move for a striker on hold until the end of the season and focus on signing a new midfielder during the January transfer window, according to the Daily Mail.

Brentford striker Ivan Toney was reportedly on the North London club’s radar during the winter window.

Arsenal, on the other hand, must operate on a tight budget to remain within Financial Fair Play guidelines after spending over £200 million during the summer transfer window, and signing another midfielder is a top priority.

Partey will miss the rest of the season after undergoing a minor treatment procedure to continue his recovery from a thigh injury, and manager Mikel Arteta wants to reduce the workload on Declan Rice and Jorginho in his absence.

It is unclear when the 30-year-old will return to action, given that he has struggled with fitness throughout the season, and Arsenal knows they need to bring in a replacement.

However, failing to sign another striker in January could prove costly, as both Gabriel Jesus and Eddie Nketiah are currently injured.

As a result, Arsenal had to play Leandro Trossard in the number 9 position against Sevilla last night, and while they won 2-0, Arsenal cannot afford to be short in such a position going forward this season.

Furthermore, while other attackers can also find the back of the net with ease, signing a quality finisher in January could make all the difference in the title race.

Arsenal may look to sell players in January to supplement their limited budget, as signing both a midfielder and a striker may be required to boost their chances of winning major silverware this season.
