Newcastle United have provided a fitness injury update as star to miss a couple of matches

A clear update on Miguel Almiron has been provided following his injury during Newcastle United’s 2-0 defeat at AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

After the game, Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe stated that Almiron had suffered a hamstring injury, adding, “I hope it’s not serious.” We don’t know how bad things are at the moment.”

Following further assessment, the Paraguay national team have communicated that the 29-year-old has suffered a grade 1 hamstring strain.

Almiron was called up to the Paraguay squad for the World Cup qualifiers against Chile and Colombia later this month, but he will not play.

The Paraguay national team issued the following statement (translated from Spanish): “The national team’s medical team communicates that, according to the report received from Newcastle United, the player Miguel Almiron suffered a grade 1 muscle injury to the femoral biceps of the right thigh, so he will not be able to participate in the next team’s qualifying.”

“The Albirroja technical and medical teams will keep a close eye on the football throughout this period, knowing how important he is to the team both on and off the field of play.”

“The Paraguayan Football Association wishes Miguel Almiron a speedy recovery.”

A grade 1 hamstring strain may only take weeks to heal rather than months, but it does make Almiron questionable for Newcastle’s Premier League games against Chelsea and Manchester United following the international break, as well as the Champions League trip to Paris Saint-Germain.
