It may require offseason surgery as Pittsburgh Steelers’ special teams coach suffered a pretty serious injury in a sideline collision

Danny Smith, special teams coach for the Pittsburgh Steelers, was seriously injured in a sideline collision at the end of Sunday’s game against the Green Bay Packers.

Smith revealed that he tore three of the four tendons in his rotator cuff after colliding with Pittsburgh safety Damontae Kazee after his game-winning interception. Packers guard Zach Tom shoved Kazee into Smith, resulting in a sideline brawl.

Smith admitted that he would require offseason surgery to correct the problem.

“This one was painful. “I have a torn rotator cuff in three places, but I’m fine,” Smith admitted.

These are the dangers of standing on an NFL sideline during a game. It is one of the occupational hazards that photographers frequently face, but coaches and sideline personnel are not immune.

The Steelers did win, and Smith appears to have been through this before, so all’s well that ends well.
