Panthers OC Thomas Brown opens up on Frank Reich taking over duties as the team’s play-caller after a rough stint.

Despite having No. 1 overall pick Bryce Young at quarterback, the Carolina Panthers offense has been a disaster this season. Head coach Frank Reich delegated play-calling duties to offensive coordinator Thomas Brown a few weeks ago. But, ahead of Week 11, Reich revealed that he reclaimed the duties in an unexpected move.

According to ESPN’s David Newton, Brown has now broken his silence on the decision.

“We’re moving forward here, focused on the Cowboys.” All year, the overall offensive product has been inadequate.”

Brown didn’t seem bothered by the decision, and he added that he had a feeling he’d lose the role on Sunday night, and he doesn’t see it as a setback for his career.

Panthers offense has been brutal either way

To be honest, as Brown stated, the Panthers offense has been subpar all season. They currently rank 29th in points per game (17), 29th in yards, 2nd in passing yards, 27th in rushing yards, and 19th in both time of possession and 3rd down efficiency, indicating that they have a lot of room to improve.

The Panthers have only scored two touchdowns in 30 drives since Brown took over, though this is not entirely his fault. They have only scored more than 24 points once this season, and they have six games with fewer than 20 points, including a dreadful 13-point performance on Thursday Night Football against the Chicago Bears in Week 10.

Bryce Young has only 1,560 yards with eight touchdowns and seven interceptions, while second-round pick C.J. Stroud is vying for Offensive Rookie of the Year and even MVP.

Miles Sanders, one of the Panthers’ key offseason acquisitions, has fallen short of expectations. Sanders has 224 yards and one touchdown on 71 carries, trailing only Chuba Hubbard. Adam Thielen has been a huge surprise, leading the team with 652 yards and four touchdowns on 68 catches. He’s also been a one-man show for Carolina at times.

Nonetheless, the Panthers’ 2023 season has been difficult, and Reich hopes to rev up the offense.
