The future of midfielder Archie Gray will “surely be in doubt” if Leeds United can’t secure promotion back to the Premier League according to Dean Jones.

Dean Jones believes that if Leeds United do not regain their Premier League status, midfielder Archie Gray’s future will be “certainly in doubt.”

The former Eurosport journalist told GiveMeSport on Sunday (19 November) that the 17-year-old is “hungry” to become part of the Whites setup and that he believes he will stay at Elland Road for the time being.

However, he admitted that the West Yorkshire club’s ability to “push themselves” will determine whether or not they retain the England youth international.

“I don’t think Leeds will be especially concerned right now,” Jones went on to say. “Gray is ingrained in Leeds culture.” He’s eager to become a part of that team and that setup. So, I believe he will remain in Leeds for the time being.

“Further down the road, it will depend on how far Leeds can push themselves.” If they are unable to return to the Premier League, his future will undoubtedly be jeopardized. But, for the time being, I believe he should concentrate on being a Leeds player.”

Gray’s future is one of those situations where only time will tell, as there are many unknowns about what level Leeds will play at next season.

Understandably, there has been a lot of interest in the teenager, who has excelled since breaking into the first team this season.

The Whites will be desperate to keep one of their brightest prospects, but much will depend on where the player sees his future and what offers come in for him.

Daniel Farke will be keen to stress to the midfielder, who has recently played at right-back, that Elland Road is the best place for him to continue his development.

Gray is unlikely to leave the club anytime soon, and it would take an offer the club simply cannot afford to turn down to consider selling him.
