Injury update: Ipswich rest key players and recover from injuries ahead of their upcoming match against West Brom as the International break walks in good favor

Ipswich Town return to Championship action this weekend when they travel to West Bromwich Albion.

The Tractor Boys have surprised many this season, continuing from last season and being one of the league’s standout performers.

Ipswich have won 12 of their 16 league games this season, with only one defeat coming against Leeds United early in the season.

Kieran McKenna’s men are now in second place in the table, 39 points behind leaders Leicester City and eight points ahead of third-place Leeds.

This international break may have come at an ideal time for Ipswich, allowing some key players to rest while also allowing them to get a few injured players back in time for the next round of fixtures.

Given how well the Baggies are doing, the game against West Brom will be crucial, and McKenna will have some difficult decisions to make regarding team selection, but one player he must stick by is starting midfielder Jack Taylor.

Who is Jack Taylor?

Taylor began his career as a youth player at Premier League club Chelsea, where he spent seven years.

He left the Blues in 2012 to join Barnet, where he stayed for four years after impressing and being signed by EFL side Peterborough United.

Taylor, a midfielder who likes to do it all, has always had an eye for goal as well as creating chances for his teammates during his time at Barnet.

He put in some outstanding performances, which he continued when he joined Posh. He played one and a half seasons in League One for the club, scoring six goals and recording five assists.

The midfielder was a key member of the team that was promoted to the second tier in the 2020/21 season and was crucial once again. He scored eight goals for Peterborough United last season, but with the club failing to gain promotion, Ipswich pounced and signed the 25-year-old in the summer transfer window.

Why should Kieran McKenna start Jack Taylor for Ipswich Town’s clash against West Brom?

After securing promotion to the Championship, McKenna wanted to ensure he had a strong squad at his disposal for the upcoming season.

So, despite having several options in the midfield, Ipswich brought in Taylor from Peterborough.

The 25-year-old was excellent for Posh throughout his time there, so he earned this move and went with the blessing of his former club.

Taylor, on the other hand, has had a difficult start to his Ipswich career, with mainly substitute appearances in the Championship.

Taylor has been available for all 16 league games this season but has appeared in just 13; the other three have seen him fail to come off the bench. Furthermore, out of the 13 appearances, he has just made two starts, one in the game against Southampton and the other in the last outing against Swansea City.

The 25-year-old has made a very good impression in recent weeks, as he came off the bench in the game against Rotherham United and scored a goal, and then against the Swans, he grabbed a spectacular goal as well as an assist.

Ipswich took all three points in that game, and McKenna needs to stick by his recent decision and start Taylor from the start against West Brom.

Taylor has averaged 12.9 passes per game this season, with an accuracy rate of 79.2%. According to WhoScored.com, he has also averaged 0.6 shots per league game with 0.2 key passes, as well as 0.7 tackles, 0.5 interceptions, and 0.2 clearances.

When you consider how he played against Swansea last time out, it seems only fair for Taylor to retain his place for this next game, as on his day he can be a fantastic player and one that suits McKenna’s style of play.
