Sheffield Wednesday coach admitted players will leave the club either on permanent or loan deals It’s about balancing the squad as he believes to guide the process.

The countdown to the January transfer window for Sheffield Wednesday has begun.

Following the departure of David Downes to Blackpool nearly six months ago, the Owls have yet to appoint a full-time head of recruitment, but are in the process of identifying a new appointment, with first team manager Danny Röhl believed to be assisting in that process.

Wednesday are in a precarious position at the bottom of the Championship table and will be hoping that the current international break will provide a boost ahead of a frantic winter schedule.

As a result of S6’s struggles, one eye is already set on the January transfer window as a potential opportunity for the club to make necessary changes to a squad compiled by their two previous managers as Röhl seeks to shape things closer to his ideals.

In an interview with The Star, the German coach admitted that he had already considered the window, identifying areas of the squad that needed to be tweaked to give their 25-man registration list more balance. Given that their registration list is full, it appears likely that players will leave the club on permanent or loan deals to make room for new signings.

“At the moment it is about some positions we must think about,” Röhl told me. “In some cases, we have five or six options, while in others, we may only have one or two.” It’s about balancing the squad, which we’ll work on in the coming weeks before getting ready for the January window.”
