Sheffield Wednesday earned a huge 3-1 lead through a young star scoring his first professional goal win over Blackburn Rovers with one man dominating the stats.

Sheffield Wednesday defeated Blackburn Rovers 3-1 today, with one man dominating the stats.

Sheffield Wednesday earned a credible point at home against league leaders Leicester City in midweek before cruising past play-off contenders Blackburn Rovers.
It caps off a huge week for the Owls, who took the lead thanks to youngster Bailey Cadamarteri, who scored his first professional goal, before adding goals in the second half from Marvin Johnson and Josh Windass.

Sheffield Wednesday have scored the most goals in a single match this season and only their second win of the season, with Danny Rohl’s side now 10 points behind Huddersfield Town after drawing with Swansea City.

Will Vaulks stood out as a standout performer in what was a massive team effort.

Stats for Will Vaulks vs. Blackburn Rovers

Today, Vaulks was everywhere. He dominated the statistics and received high praise from The Star journalist Joe Crann, who wrote about him on X:

According to Sofascore, Vaulks won more duels (9) than any other Sheffield Wednesday player, more ground duels (8) than any other Wednesday player, and completed more passes (38) than any other Wednesday player.

Furthermore, Vaulks had the most touches of the ball of any Sheffield Wednesday player (85), as well as the most key passes (4).

Vaulks absolutely bossed the midfield, initially on his own, and prevented Blackburn Rovers from playing their usual, progressive and attacking style of play.

Vaulks returns to form for Sheffield Wednesday.
The 30-year-old has had a difficult season.

After being overlooked by Xisco Munoz and having to work his way into Rohl’s XI, he has only appeared 11 times in the Championship.

But the Welshman has started the last three games and has been particularly impressive in the last two.

He puts himself about like no other midfielder, winning tackles and preventing opposing midfields from creating opportunities and causing problems for Wednesday.

It’s difficult to imagine a Wednesday XI without Vaulks, which is a huge credit to him and Rohl for finding a role that brings out the best in him.

Sheffield’s next assignment The Potters have had a poor season so far, and with Wednesday on a roll, it could be a very interesting match up.
