Birmingham City Wayne Rooney is having a tough start to life back in England as four names fans will love to hear as City manager contenders emerge with rival Swansea

Swansea City, Birmingham City’s Championship rivals, fired Michael Duff earlier this week. It was the first of two dismissals after Sunderland parted ways with Tony Mowbray a few hours later.

The Swans drew 1-1 against the Blues on the first day of the season, but both teams’ managers have changed since then. Alan Sheehan, a former Bradford City and Luton Town midfielder, has been appointed as caretaker manager and will oversee the weekend match against managerless Rotherham United.

Nathan Jones is unlikely, according to reports in South Wales, which is not surprising given that he grew up as a Cardiff City fan. Another candidate who appears to have been ruled out is John Eustace, who has been on Swansea’s radar for a few years and is available for free. According to WalesOnline, Eustace is ‘not interested’ in replacing Duff and turned down Swansea in 2021 before Russell Martin took over. He’s been linked with a job at Sunderland, and it’ll be interesting to see where he ends up next and how he values himself in light of his next move.

Swansea City visit St Andrew’s on January 13, and you’d think the Welsh club would have found a new manager by then. Eustace and Nathan Jones appear to be out, but could a former Blues manager be in the away dugout in the new year? Gary Rowett, who left Millwall earlier this season, and Steve Bruce, who appears to be retired, are two names among many. Steve Cotterill, who played for Blues in the Midlands, is also a candidate for the position.

Chris Davies, according to the BBC, is a leading candidate for the position. He is Spurs’ senior assistant coach, and he has spent the majority of his career working alongside Brendan Rodgers at Celtic and Leicester City, respectively.

Here are the current favorites for the Swansea.com Stadium hot seat. Three men who have managed Birmingham City are on the shortlist, and one of them has also managed Aston Villa. SkyBet, the official sponsor of the EFL Championship, provides all odds.

Steve Morison and Steve Evans

Graham Potter, Jim Goodwin, Leam Richardson, Roy Keane, Steve Bruce and Steve Cotterill
