Kyril Louis-Dreyfus Sunderland owner identifies Reims manager for Sunderland’s managerial shortlist to replace Tony Mowbray at the Stadium Of Light ahead of Newcastle United FA cup

Sunderland will have a new manager in charge when Newcastle United face them in the FA Cup in January.

While Eddie Howe will lead the Magpies into battle in the derby, it is unknown who will manage Sunderland.

That is because they decided to sack Tony Mowbray on Monday night, as they have done in the past before a Tyne-Wear derby.

As Newcastle prepares to play Sunderland for the first time since 2016, there is a lot of excitement and trepidation surrounding the game at the Stadium Of Light. It will be Eddie Howe’s first derby as manager of the Toon, and the club will be looking for their first win over the Mackems since 2011

The Magpies will be favorites regardless, but the type of Sunderland team we will face is unknown as they continue to look for a new manager.

Surprisingly, one of the current names associated with the position is one who admits to being inspired by our current leader, Eddie Howe.

According to the Guardian, Sunderland are considering Reims manager Will Still to replace Tony Mowbray at the Stadium Of Light.

According to the report, the 31-year-old manager has impressed Sunderland’s owner with his work with Ligue 1 club Reims in France, which is why he is being considered for the job on Wearside.

Still, like many other managers, would be able to win over the fans at Sunderland if he could win the Tyne-Wear derby, where he would be taking on a manager he has paid close attention to during his young career.

Still was asked to name some of the managers who have inspired him during an interview with French YouTube channel Free earlier this year, and one of his responses is now very interesting in light of recent events.

“Jurgen Klopp, Pep Guardiola, Vincent Kompany who does an extraordinary job at Burnley, Eddie Howe at Newcastle,” said the Liverpool manager.

“But I could never compare myself to all these guys, because they are in another universe than me.”

Still does not believe he exists in the same universe as Howe, and that theory could be tested as early as January if the youngster is appointed manager of Sunderland.

He would be an intriguing appointment for the Black Cats, though his previous praise for Newcastle United manager Steve Bruce may not go down well on Wearside.
