Danny Röhl has a list of players at Sheffield Wednesday that he’d like to hand new contracts to.

The Owls have a number of senior players out of contract in the summer as their current contracts expire, and regardless of which division they end up in, there are some big decisions to be made about their future.

Röhl has yet to sign a single player since joining the club, which is hoped to change in January, but he has managed to steady the ship at Hillsborough with a group of players inherited from previous managers.

The January and summer transfer windows will give the German the opportunity to assemble a team that he believes can propel the club forward, but he insists that he won’t be dwelling on that too much at this point because of what needs to be accomplished before the season ends.

“I have a list of people who I want to extend,” he told The Star. “And we have to do it for the next few weeks and months… I need to talk to the players and agents to let them know where we’re going, and it’s a big topic.
Honestly though, right now our position is that we have to fight to stay in the league and then we have to look in both directions.

“We cannot close our eyes; we must prepare for both.” But, yes, we do have a clear plan for the coming weeks and months. It’s critical that we understand this, but even though I know it’s exciting for people who hear rumors, I won’t dwell on it too much. If there is something, I will inform you and the supporters, but please know that we are doing everything we can behind the scenes.”

Needless to say, when asked jokingly who might be on the list, Röhl laughed off the idea, instead focusing on this weekend’s game against Cardiff City at S6 on Saturday.
