Gary Lineker and Micah Richards have criticised Willy Boly’s sending-off for Nottingham Forest on Saturday against Bournemouth.

Willy Boly was sent off for Nottingham Forest against Bournemouth on Saturday, according to Gary Lineker and Micah Richards.

After a challenge with Cherries’ Adam Smith, the centre-back was shown a second yellow card. Replays showed that Boly touched the ball, but VAR was unable to intervene because yellow cards are not within its purview.

Despite taking the lead through Anthony Elanga and equalizing to make it 2-2 through Chris Wood, Forest lost 3-2 in Nuno Espirito Santo’s first game in charge. However, a hat-trick from Dominic Solanke condemned the Reds to their sixth defeat in seven games.

Both Richards and Lineker, however, agreed that Boly’s dismissal against Andoni Iraola’s team was the wrong call. Lineker also hopes Forest will file an appeal.

“Oh my God, He’s made a massive mistake, Gary,” Richards admitted on Match of the Day. “You see, he wins the ball, and the referee clearly draws for the yellow to make it a red.”

“You can see on the replay that Smith actually stands on him.” I’m not sure how that can be considered a yellow card.

“Obviously VAR can’t intervene because it’s a yellow, even though it’s ultimately a red, which seems a bit of a shame,” Lineker added.
But hopefully, there’ll be an appeal and they’ll win it because he doesn’t want to miss a game unless he wants to miss a game on Boxing Day!”
