Andy Gray has criticised Leander Dendoncker for his part in Alejandro Garnacho’s equaliser

Andy Gray has slammed Leander Dendoncker for his role in Alejandro Garnacho’s equalizer as Manchester United defeated Aston Villa 3-2.

The Claret and Blues led 2-0 at halftime and appeared to be on their way to another convincing victory in their pursuit of a top-four finish. Unai Emery’s team, on the other hand, were swept away in the second period as talented Argentine Garnacho scored twice and Rasmus Hojlund grabbed a late winner to defeat Villa.

Dendoncker will most likely remember the occasion for scoring his first Villa goal, after John McGinn had opened the scoring, but former Villa striker turned pundit Gray emphasized his role as United tied the game at 2-2.

Garnacho hit a shot that deflected off Diego Carlos and past Emi Martinez as the ball was rolled to him just inside the area. Dendoncker had thrown himself at the ball, but with his back to it.

Gray was unimpressed, telling the Daily Mail, “I would fine him.” I would penalize him. “Anyone who turns their back on a ball.”

“I think the next two or three weeks are going to be crucial for Villa,” Gray added, “because after two poor performances – Sheffield United and tonight – they can’t have another.” Good teams have a couple of questionable results, but they respond quickly.”
