Mikel Arteta fires Declan Rice warning as Arsenal star prepares for West Ham reunion

Mikel Arteta has warned Arsenal star Declan Rice that there is “much more” to come from him ahead of his reunion with West Ham United this evening. The Hammers will travel to the Emirates Stadium to face the Gunners in the London derby.

With a win over David Moyes’ side, Arsenal will reclaim top spot in the Premier League table. Liverpool reclaimed first place with a 2-0 win over Burnley on Boxing Day, moving two points ahead of Arsenal.

Rice was crucial in helping Arsenal earn a point at Anfield last weekend, demonstrating why he cost the Gunners a whopping £105 million in the summer. The England international will now face his former club for the second time this season, having appeared as a substitute in the Carabao Cup defeat to West Ham in November.

Despite scoring three goals this season, Arteta believes Rice can add more goals and assists to his game. In a press conference this week, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger said, “When they put the price tag on it, you have to carry that, and it is not easy.”

“You get a vibe from players, and I wanted him on our team.” He has been playing in a deeper role in recent weeks, but as a No.8, he can be an incredible player, capable of filling in at center back if necessary.

“He has demonstrated that he has a good eye for goal, and when he is in the opponent’s box, he is a real threat.” That is something that can be developed, his leadership ability, the way he will naturally grow in the team and club in the coming years, he has a lot more to offer.”

“He has more levels to climb.” I enjoy his presence on the field. He’s arrived, and he’s bringing something special. I felt it when I played against him, which is why I signed him.
