Interest shown in some Wrexham players “on the periphery”

PHIL PARKINSON believes there may be exits from The Racecourse this month, with clubs interested in some of his peripheral players.

Wrexham won the National League title in 2022-23 and have continued to improve this season, finishing third in League Two, just two points behind leaders Stockport County with a game in hand.

The January transfer market is open, and while additional arrivals are still a possibility, Parkinson will be wary of EFL squad size limits when dealing with players this month.

League Two clubs are limited to a 22-man roster, which does not include goalkeepers or players under the age of 21 at the start of the calendar year, such as centre-back Max Cleworth.

When Parkinson filed his outfield rota in September, wing-backs Bryce Hosannah and Callum McFadzean, as well as striker Billy Waters, were not included, though all three are eligible in January until teams submit new squad lists when the window shuts.

With other players in the squad similarly out of favor, Parkinson believes it is unavoidable that there will be departures.

“There has been some interest in players who have been out of the picture so we are looking at a few of those situations,” said Brendan Rodgers, the Liverpool manager.

“There are some players who have been on the outskirts who are attracting some interest, and we are in talks with one or two clubs.”

“I imagine that some players will be leaving the club, the 22-man squad rule dictates that.”

Parkinson, who is linked to several players, is keeping his cards close to his breast when it comes to new signings.

“We are just reviewing where we are with our injured players and seeing when they are coming back but obviously we are looking at options.,” he said.
