Danny Rohl has told the media exactly what he said to referee Anthony Backhouse after Sheffield Wednesday’s defeat to Coventry City.

Sheffield Wednesday suffered their second defeat in a row after losing at home to Coventry yesterday afternoon.

Ben Sheaf’s brace was enough to secure all three points for the visitors, but Josh Windass’ second-half strike was simply a consolation, bringing his total to four goals in his past seven outings for The Owls.

The result, however, did not appear to be the focus of the fans’ wrath, with ’embarrassing’ Anthony Backhouse receiving a lot of whistles at halftime and full time.

The official issued nine yellow cards at Hillsborough, and Chris Powell was also booked for his complaints after a first-half tackle on Ashley Fletcher went unnoticed.

Danny Rohl was anxious to express his thoughts after 90 minutes, engaging in a lengthy conversation with Backhouse as he attempted to leave the ground.

The German has now stated what he told the referee. Rohl told BBC Sheffield (via The Star): “After the game, there is always emotion. In the first half, various situations were maybe 50-50, with one side having a slight advantage.

“This is what I told him but this is the decision from the ref, I have to accept it. In this case I want to say something in this direction. I said it after the game, it’s OK, we go forward.”

Sheffield Wednesday suffered a difficult defeat, as their hopes of escaping the relegation zone dwindled once more.

The Owls are currently five points from safety, having earlier appeared to be on track after winning five of their eight games over the winter season.

Coventry have gone unbeaten in their past ten games in all competitions, so it was always going to be a difficult encounter, especially because they clearly didn’t have a referee to ensure a fair game.

Danny Rohl’s side will meet the Sky Blues for the third time in a month this weekend, when they host Mark Robins’ side in the FA Cup, before facing another difficult test at Watford next week.

Sheffield Wednesday have a lot of challenging opponents in the coming weeks, but they must start picking up points if they are not to lose their place in the league.
