Danny Rohl has provided an injury update on Sheffield Wednesday star

Dominic Iorfa had played the entire 90 minutes in seven of Danny Rohl’s eight games in charge before his injury, with the German coach describing him as ‘excellent’ at the start of his time at Hillsborough.

The defender has now been out for more than a month, having been substituted after only four minutes in December’s 3-1 victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Rohl previously revealed he feared for Iorfa after he went down against Rovers, saying: “I had immediately in my mind after such a sprint after 10 seconds, in this temperature and a ‘English week’, that it could be tough.

“When he went down I was really scared about the situation, but it was also a mental thing after – it’s not easy for a team after an injury in one minute be strong in the game.”

Iorfa has now missed Sheffield Wednesday’s previous nine Championship games, as well as their 4-0 FA Cup win over Cardiff City earlier this month.

The Owls manager has now said that the 28-year-old is close to a return and might be back in action in February.

Rohl told The Star: “Hopefully in three or four weeks.”

“But with this ailment, it’s all about week to week. We will attempt… Next week, we have the cup game, followed by another game on Tuesday. Hopefully, in February, he will be able to return to the pitch and train with the team.

“But you know, with injuries, you need some time to adapt again, so we’ll try. He’s a fantastic player for us and performed well before his injury, but this is the circumstance.”

Dominic Iorfa is joined on the treatment table by Will Vaulks, Momo Diaby, Michael Smith, Mallik Willks, and Juan Delgado, but this is without a doubt one of their most significant absences.

Sheffield Wednesday have raced through a busy festive period with an enormous injury list, but have largely remained unaffected, despite some of their big stars sitting on the sidelines.

The Owls have watched Liam Palmer and Michael Ihiekwe welcome their return to the first team, giving Danny Rohl more choices to explore once everyone is fit.
