Wrexham have reportedly submitted a bid for Wigan Athletic striker after Phil Parkinson’s request for attacking reinforcements.

According to TEAMtalk, the Red Dragons have made an official offer for Humphrys as they look to improve their attacking lineup before the transfer window shuts. The Wigan ace is currently in the final six months of his contract, which may allow the Welsh club to sign him at a reduced price.

Wrexham, who are presently second in League Two, see Humphrys as an important player who can score goals and help them achieve promotion. Parkinson has pushed on improving their offensive, and the recent defeat to Newport County, in which they failed to score, may have prompted owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney to expedite the transfer process.

Humphrys has nine goals and four assists in 33 games across several competitions for Wigan this season. Humphrys returned to Wigan last summer after spending the 2022-23 season on loan with Scottish club Hearts. He graduated from Fulham’s youth and went on to play for Southend in 2019 and Rochdale in 2020 before joining Wigan the following year.
It remains to be seen whether Wrexham’s bid is enough to persuade Wigan to sell their prized possession. Nonetheless, the prospective arrival of Humphrys would undoubtedly add depth and firepower to Wrexham’s squad as they strive for back-to-back promotions.
