Seahawks Offered Mike Macdonald Historic Contract to Land Former Ravens DC

Although Mike Macdonald, the former defensive coordinator, was acquired by the Seattle Seahawks from the Baltimore Ravens, the hiring of the new head coach required an unprecedentedly huge salary. It has been disclosed that Macdonald’s deal is the most awarded to a rookie head coach in NFL history.

NFL Network stated, “My understanding is this is the highest paid—I don’t know the exact number—but he’ll be the highest paid first-time coach ever.” “There were two teams there, and if there are two bidders, one can outbid the other. That is the type of thing that can occur there. Thus, Mike Macdonald secured a long-term and profitable contract for himself. The Washington Commanders, who were reportedly interested in Macdonald, lost him to Seattle and then acquired rival defensive coordinator Dan Quinn from the Dallas Cowboys to take over as the team’s next head coach.

Regarding the Ravens, Zach Orr, a former inside linebackers coach, has been promoted to the position of defensive coordinator in an attempt to move on from Macdonald. Orr played as an All-Pro linebacker with the Ravens from 2014 to 2016, but he was diagnosed with a congenital spine and neck ailment when he was just 24 years old, which forced him to retire in his prime.

Orr has continued to be involved with the Ravens organization even since he retired from the game. Just seven years after his medically required retirement, Orr began his career with the organization in 2017 as a defensive consultant and has since ascended the ranks to become a defensive coordinator at the age of 31. Orr will now have to show that he has what it takes to succeed Macdonald as a head coach by showing that he can not only step into his shoes but also pass him.
