The list of Wrexham players that are out of contract at the end of the season and their futures with the club are uncertain.

Wrexham has had a fantastic season in League Two so far.
The Red Dragons were promoted back to the EFL after a 15-year hiatus, winning the National League title with an astonishing 111 points last season.

As many expected, Phil Parkinson’s team has easily transitioned to the fourth tier, spending much of the season in and around the top three, and back-to-back promotions seem a very real possibility.

Wrexham already had a solid squad from last season, but they have strengthened it tremendously with some high-profile arrivals throughout the season.

While Parkinson’s immediate focus will be on leading the team into League One, he will soon face some difficult decisions, with several members of his squad out of contract in the summer.

We looked at which Wrexham players are now in the final six months of their contracts and will be leaving as free agents.

Rob Lainton

Goalkeeper Lainton is one of the Red Dragons’ longest-serving players, having joined on loan from Port Vale in July 2018 before making the switch permanent four months later.

The 34-year-old has made 133 appearances for the club thus far, but he has been hampered by injuries in recent years, and his departure in the summer appears imminent.

Mark Howard

Goalkeeper Howard joined Wrexham in July 2022 after being released by Carlisle United, and he remained the club’s number one until Ben Foster’s arrival in March.

Howard briefly regained his spot in the team following Foster’s retirement in August, but the 37-year-old is now second choice behind Arsenal loanee Arthur Okonkwo.

Liam Hall

Goalkeeper Hall joined the Racecourse Ground from Bradford Park Avenue this summer, signing a one-year contract with the option to extend.

The 19-year-old is yet to make his Red Dragons debut, but he has appeared on the bench on several times in the EFL Trophy.

Aaron Hayden

Hayden, a defender, joined Wrexham from Carlisle in August 2021 and contributed significantly to the club’s promotion last season, netting 12 goals in 29 games.

However, Hayden has struggled with injury this season, forcing the club to make a crucial choice about his future in the summer.

Ben Tozer

After winning the League Two title with Cheltenham Town the previous season, defender Tozer made the surprising decision to move down to the National League to join Wrexham in August 2021, and his arrival was a significant statement of purpose from the club.

Tozer has been a vital part of the Red Dragons’ success, and after captaining the team on several occasions this season, it appears he will be offered an extension in the summer.

Jordan Tunnicliffe

Tunnicliffe, a defender, joined the Racecourse Ground from Crawley Town in July 2022, after scoring two goals in 29 appearances to assist the club win promotion last season.

However, Tunnicliffe’s season has been severely hampered by injury, and after recently returning, he will be aiming to stay fit in the coming months as he seeks a new deal.

Callum McFadzean

McFadzean joined Wrexham from Crewe Alexandra in January 2022, however despite making numerous appearances last season, he has fallen out of favour this season.

McFadzean has yet to participate in the league this season, and it is unlikely that he will be offered an extension in the summer.

Luke Young

Midfielder Young joined Wrexham from Torquay United in July 2018, and while Tozer has frequently worn the armband this season, he is still the club captain.

Young’s leadership abilities have been critical for the Red Dragons both on and off the field, but his game time has been increasingly limited this season, and his six-year tenure at the Racecourse Ground may be coming to an end.

James McClean

McClean played in the Championship for Wigan Athletic last season, but he joined Wrexham in August, demonstrating the club’s ambition under owners Rob Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

McClean signed a one-year contract at the Racecourse Ground with the option for an extension, and considering his good performances this season, the Red Dragons will undoubtedly want to keep him.
