The Green Bay Packers have found their next franchise quarterback in Jordan Love, who can lead the team to the playoffs while also making big plays. The time has come for the Packers’ front management to reward its quarterback with a substantial contract extension.
Love is still under contract for the 2024 season after signing a short-term agreement last year. The short-term contract guaranteed him $13.5 million while allowing Green Bay to release him if he did not perform properly.

Instead, Love performed like one of the NFL’s finest quarterbacks in the second half of the season. After leading football’s youngest team to the playoffs and coming within a few plays of defeating the eventual NFC champions, Green Bay is apparently ready to reward Love for his performance.
According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Packers are open to discussing a new contract for Love that reflects his value as a real starting quarterback. While Green Bay could technically let him play out the 2024 season on his current contract, doing so risks raising his price tag even higher.
Early projections for a contract extension range from $38 to $42 million per season, making Love one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the league. While it’s a high price to pay for a starter with limited experience, Love’s performance late in the season justifies it.

Negotiations are anticipated to pick up this season, with the Packers’ front management eager to commit to the 25-year-old quarterback. If Love continues to progress, the extension he signs in 2024 may seem like a steal two years from now.
