The Chicago Bears have terminated the contract of the American cornerback which to clear space as the bear issued a contract extension for the 24 year old cornerback.

After some not-so-cryptic social media posts surfaced last week, it’s hardly surprise that the Chicago Bears have released Eddie Jackson. The move may not satisfy fans, but that is the human element of this sport.

The Chicago Bears’ release Eddie Jackson clears $12.56 million of cap.
The NFL is one of the world’s largest businesses, therefore these decisions are not made lightly.

Eddie Jackson was a major player of the 2018 Chicago Bears team, which appeals to younger Bears fans. That team was one of the most memorable in recent memory, and Eddie Jackson contributed significantly to its success.
Unfortunately for Eddie Jackson, he is not the 2018 Bo Jack that fans fell in love with. There was speculation that he would return in 2022, but an injury derailed that plan. And, given Jaylon Johnson’s need for a hefty contract, this move, as well as the Cody Whitehair move, are most likely intended to raise funds for Jaylon Johnson’s next contract.

Eddie Jackson is not a horrible football player; the Bears simply needed money to pay their younger players, who would stay with the team longer than Jackson.

Releasing Jackson frees up over $13 million in salary cap space, which is almost enough to pay one year of Jaylon Johnson’s contract. In a defense that need strong leaders, Jaylon Johnson replaces Eddie Jackson.

The Bears have an opportunity this offseason to replace Eddie Jackson and re-sign Jaylon Johnson. If that means letting go of a player who is no longer in peak form, that is a necessary step.

The Chicago Bears have already completed one-half of the transfer. Now, extend Jaylon Johnson.
