Wrexham team and injury news as ‘incredible’ ace suffered a broken leg

Phil Parkinson’s side returned to winning ways in midweek by defeating strugglers Sutton United, with goals from Will Boyle and Elliot Lee sealing a hard-earned triumph.

It was their first victory in four League Two games, and a few players provided Parkinson with food for thought.

Boyle, for example, has often been the pantomime villain this season after being sent off in the defeat to Newport, but after scoring and playing brilliantly at the back, he is now a lock for the starting lineup.

Meanwhile, Wrexham’s replacements of Paul Mullin and Ollie Palmer transformed the game against Sutton, so he has been told to start both on Saturday.

While Mullin is expected to play after being rested, Palmer’s selection is uncertain after Stephen Fletcher and Jack Marriott began in midweek.

One alteration he could make is to drop defensive midfielder George Evans, who was injured and replaced by Luke Young.

If he is found fit, he should play in midfield.

Aside from Evans, Wrexham defender Tom O’Connor is making progress in his recovery from a fractured foot, although he is unlikely to return this weekend.

Here’s how Wrexham could match up against Notts County.
Arthur Okonkwo has been one of Wrexham’s best players this season. The Arsenal loan goalkeeper produced some key saves against Sutton in midweek and will be tested again against the dangerous Macaulay Langstaff.

In terms of his back five, Luke Bolton should keep his spot at right wing-back after assisting Lee’s winner on Tuesday, while the three central defenders are far from clear, though Parkinson should stick with Boyle, Eoghan O’Connell, and Max Cleworth as his defensive line, with James McClean continuing at left wing-back.

Parkinson stated that Evans was substituted against Sutton due to glute soreness, although the 29-year-old might be replaced by Luke Young, who impressed off the bench on Tuesday.

He might team up with Andy Cannon and Elliot Lee.

Lee didn’t have his finest game in a Wrexham shirt on Tuesday, but he came through when his team needed him most with the crucial winning goal. They may need him to perform more heroics against County.

The biggest difficulty for the Wrexham manager is deciding who to start as his front two. Mullin, who has previously been praised as “incredible” by his manager, will return to the side after a rest, although he will be partnered by Fletcher, Marriott, or Palmer.

Parkinson may go with the seasoned Fletcher and utilize Marriott and Palmer off the bench as impact subs if necessary.
