The 32 year old Scottish player recently spoke to The Star about his future as he is hoping for new Sheffield Wednesday deal

One Sheffield Wednesday player hopes to stay with the club beyond this season.

Sheffield Wednesday has several players out of contract this summer.
On that list are some notable names, such as Barry Bannan, Di’Shon Bernard, and Josh Windass, all of whom Danny Rohl wants to maintain at Hillsborough.

Veteran Liam Palmer will also be out of contract in the summer; the 32-year-old just made his 424th total appearance for the Owls, moving him into joint ninth place on the club’s all-time appearances record.

It follows interest from the MLS during last month’s transfer window, but Palmer intends to continue with the club beyond this summer.

Liam Palmer hopes for a new Sheffield Wednesday agreement.

Palmer recently spoke with The Star regarding his future in Season 6.

When asked if he and the club had discussed his future after this season, he stated:

“There’s nothing yet. I know the manager stated in the press that he would get January out of the way (before dealing with contract extensions), but I have yet to speak with him. Hopefully, we’ll chat within the next few weeks. He has stated that he has a mental list of players he wishes to keep. “Hopefully, I’m on that list.”

Palmer has played more of a back-up role for Sheffield Wednesday this season.

He’s still racked up 23 Championship appearances for the Owls, having played more of a role since Dominic Iorfa’s injury whilst also playing in a new midfield role under Rohl.

Last season was arguably Palmer’s most impressive in a Wednesday shirt; he featured 47 times in league fixtures, scoring six and assisting three along the way.

Why Danny Rohl should keep Palmer past this season.
Regardless of the league Sheffield Wednesday plays in next season, keeping Palmer feels like a wise decision.

He has a wealth of expertise and is deeply committed to the team, which is critical at this juncture.

Palmer wants to continue playing for Sheffield Wednesday at a time when the club isn’t the most appealing place to play, so that kind of tenacity and enthusiasm should be precisely what Rohl looks for in his players.

Palmer has also demonstrated his versatility this season, playing both right-back and defensive midfield, where he has performed well on occasion.

With championship survival still the primary goal this season, expect contract negotiations to be put on hold for a little longer.

With 13 games remaining, Palmer has an excellent opportunity to impress Rohl and the club.

Sheffield Wednesday’s next game comes at home against Bristol City this weekend.
