Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl has dropped a scary update on the Chilean winger

Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl has provided an update on a forgotten player.

Sheffield Wednesday added a slew of new players last summer.

Former manager Xisco Munoz brought some good and not-so-good players to Hillsborough, with Di’Shon Bernard, Anthony Musaba, and Djeidi Gassama perhaps the best of the group.

However, Juan Delgado has certainly struggled since his arrival in S6.

The Chilean international joined from Pacos de Ferreira in Portugal, but after 10 Championship matches, he sustained a hip injury that has kept him out since the beginning of October.

Danny Rohl believes Juan Delgado may never play for Sheffield Wednesday again.

Speaking to The Star ahead of this weekend’s Championship match against Bristol City, Rohl provided an injury update on the 30-year-old Delgado, saying:

“It’s sort of a never-ending story. I suppose it’s difficult to see him, but he’s working hard at the gym. At the moment, he hasn’t been close to team training, so we’ll have to wait.

“Maybe there is an opportunity, but he may not be able to play for Wednesday again. It’s tough to predict what will happen in the coming months.

The length of Delgado’s Sheffield Wednesday deal was not disclosed, though Rohl’s above comments may suggest that the wide-man signed a one-year deal last summer and could ultimately be released this summer.

A tough situation, but that’s football
Delgado appears to have one of those niggling injuries that may keep a player out for an extended period.

And it’s sad considering the circumstances; he’ll most certainly be out of contract in the summer and may not have the opportunity to earn a new deal.

Delgado’s ten appearances for Sheffield Wednesday were generally hit or miss. But he never played for Rohl, and like so many others on the club, Delgado could have thrived under the German.

Delgado’s abilities, as a fast-paced player with good control and versatility to play as a winger or wing-back, and possibly even on either flank, could have been extremely beneficial to Sheffield Wednesday in the second half of the season.

However, Rohl’s comment about Delgado maybe never playing for Wednesday again appears to imply that he is out of contract in the summer and is still a long way from returning to health.

If Delgado shows no signs of returning to play soon, the club may have to be severe on him, and Delgado may have a difficult path from there.

Sheffield Wednesday’s match against Bristol City begins at 3 p.m. tomorrow.
