Verstappen warns new Red Bull has more to show

Max Verstappen has stated that Red Bull still sees lots of promise in the new RB20.

The Milton Keynes-based firm landed in Bahrain for pre-season testing with changes to its dominant Rb19 philosophy, including bodywork that appeared to be inspired by Mercedes’ previous idea.

Verstappen was near the top of the timesheets anytime he was in the vehicle, as was Sergio Perez, and during long runs, it was evident that Red Bull had a significant advantage over its competitors, even if fuel loads and power settings remained undisclosed.

When asked if there was more to come, Verstappen told reporters, including RacingNews365, that the team believes there is more potential to find with the car.

“So that is now up to us to unlock.”

Wind sensitivity has been a topic of contention with the latest generation of F1 vehicles, with Ferrari particularly battling to achieve a balance in windy circumstances last season.

Red Bull is not immune to the problem, and when asked if there was a noticeable difference in characteristics in windy conditions with the new machinery, Verstappen explained: “I didn’t notice a huge difference from last year, but these cars are sensitive to wind, especially on a track like this where the wind can influence your balance quite a lot.

“Breaking into one and out of one is always a hard combo.

“But it felt very similar to last year.
