Antonio Pierce Has Clear Message About Raiders’ QB Situation

It’s been a long time since the Las Vegas Raiders had a truly exceptional quarterback.

From 2014 to 2022, they had Derek Carr, who made the Pro Bowl four times but only led them to the playoffs once, and they finally opted to part ways with him in late 2022.
Last summer, they signed veteran Jimmy Garoppolo, but he was benched after seven games of dismal performance.

Las Vegas has a new permanent head coach in Antonio Pierce and a vacancy to fill at center, and Pierce has made it clear that he wants a long-term, high-quality answer, according to Vincent Bonsignore.

“That’s old, man,” Pierce said of a quick fix at quarterback.

After benching Garoppolo, the Raiders turned to rookie Aidan O’Connell at quarterback, but he didn’t fare much better than Garoppolo, throwing for 2,218 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions while completing 62.1 percent of his pass attempts across 11 games.

They certainly have quality elsewhere, including star wide receiver Davante Adams and a very good WR2 in Jakobi Meyers, and on defense, pass rusher Maxx Crosby continues to scare opposing quarterbacks.
Furthermore, the Raiders might re-sign running back Josh Jacobs, whose stats dropped in 2023 but led the NFL in rushing yards the year before.

Russell Wilson of the Denver Broncos and Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings are two potential possibilities to fill their quarterback position.

Another option for them is to use their No. 13 pick in the April draft to select a quarterback, or to trade up to get someone like Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels.
