Detroit Lions is weighing a move to tie the 29 year old with a huge contract extension as a top paid QB

The Detroit Lions, who were one game away from the Super Bowl last season, have discovered a new culture under Head Coach Dan Campbell. The Lions won the NFC North for the first time since divisions were reconfigured in 2002, and they advanced to the NFC Championship Game after a three-decade drought.

While Campbell turned the organization around, quarterback Jared Goff has also contributed to Detroit’s success. Who was dealt by the Los Angeles Rams to the Detroit Lions in exchange for Matthew Stafford.
Goff got his third Pro Bowl nomination in 2023 after throwing for 4,575 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions while completing 66.7 percent of his passes during the regular season. Leading Detroit to 27.4 points per game on offense, Goff improved from previous season and demonstrated that he can lead a team to many playoff victories.

Goff, who is entering the final year of his current contract, will earn $21.7 million next season if he is not extended. However, both parties have been in talks and expect a settlement to be reached in the future. According to NFL Insider Jordan Schultz, Detroit could pay him like a top quarterback.
“I believe there is a real probability that Jared Goff will be paid between $40 and $45 million. Jared Goff, for example, played excellent football for the Lions last year and two years prior. Proving that he was far more than everyone, including myself, had expected.”

If Goff and the Lions cannot reach a deal on an extension this season, the Lions will face an additional $10 million cap penalty. While extending his contract could free up salary room to strengthen the rest of their roster this season, General Manager Brad Holmes told reporters that Goff’s contract isn’t a top priority in their present decision-making.
