Sheffield Wednesday have received an injury boost ahead of their key showdown against Rotherham United this Saturday.
This Saturday, Sheffield Wednesday will travel across South Yorkshire to face Rotherham United, the bottom team.
After six consecutive losses and only one win since October, the Millers are now 16 points behind Sheffield Wednesday and 13 behind them.
The Owls, meantime, have won three of their last four games and are now only three points from safety after defeating Bristol City 2-1.
Akin Famewo is ‘back in training’ ahead of Rotherham United meeting.
Akin Famewo, 25, has missed the last three Sheffield Wednesday games with a muscular issue.
However, writer Joe Crann has stated on X that Famewo is ‘back in training’; whether or not he is fit enough to return to the squad this weekend remains to be seen.
Famewo has largely played at left-back this season.
Under both Xisco Munoz and Danny Rohl, the former Norwich City player has been regarded as a left-sided defender rather than a central one.
Though Marvin Johnson already has that slot locked down, with January arrival Kristian Pedersen still out, Famewo’s eventual return to action will offer Rohl with much-needed left-side coverage.
Famewo returns just in time for Sheffield Wednesday’s run-in.
Sheffield Wednesday now have 12 games standing between them and the end of the season.
So Rohl and co have 12 games to make up what is currently a three-point gap to safety, and salvage their Championship status for another year.
And having Famewo back will be a huge boost to the Owls’ survival hopes.
Right now, Johnson has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to stay fit, because if he gets injured then Rohl has no fit left-backs.

Furthermore, Johnson is more of a left wing-back, having recently played on the left side of a back five.
Famewo, on the other hand, may be better suited to playing on the left side of a back four, thus his return gives Rohl additional options in terms of structure.
And with few centre-backs to call on other than the three who started the previous game; Di’Shon Bernard, who is suspended this weekend, Michael Ihiekwe, and Liam Palmer, having someone with Famewo’s versatility for the run-in would be crucial.
So, overall, Famewo’s comeback to training and imminent return to action is a significant boost for the Owls and Rohl.
Sheffield On Saturday, Rohl will be keeping a close eye on Stoke City’s game at home to Middlesbrough, QPR’s away trip to Leicester City, and Millwall’s home game against Watford.
