Chelsea identify De Zerbi and Amorim as Pochettino replacements amid ‘fading habit’ worry

Chelsea have apparently identified Brighton’s Roberto De Zerbi and Sporting Lisbon manager Ruben Amorim as potential candidates for Mauricio Pochettino, despite the club’s wish to keep the current manager until the end of the season.

During Sunday’s 2-2 draw with Brentford, Chelsea fans turned on Pochettino (along with the owners), and there are serious doubts about whether the Argentinian will complete the two-year contract he signed in the summer.

According to The Guardian, Poch still retains the backing of the Chelsea owners, who’remain resolved not to make any kneejerk judgments’ and feel he has the team’moving in the right path’.

He has had to cope with serious injury issues, as well as a lack of expertise within his playing staff.

Todd Boehly and Clearlake are ‘seeking for continuity after appointing four managers last season’ but are ‘taking a long-term perspective’ by ‘assessing’ both De Zerbi and Amorim as contenders to take over.

De Zerbi is also on the radar of Liverpool and Manchester United as a result of his good work for Brighton (though it hasn’t been as brilliant lately), and Amorim was on Chelsea’s shortlist until Pochettino was hired.

Despite their continued trust in Pochettino, the newspaper claims Chelsea are ‘looking into their propensity of faltering after half-time’ under the 52-year-old, citing ‘frustration that positive first-half performances have not been backed up on enough occasions’.

On Pochettino’s future at Chelsea, Fabrizio Romano stated on Sunday: “Chelsea’s view on Mauricio Pochettino remains unchanged. They want to see great outcomes, of course, so let’s see what happens in the next few games, but their top priority has always been to wait until the end of the season.

“This is still the plan at Chelsea; they will assess the situation with the manager and then make a decision.” The pressure is on because they want to see greater results and something different, but it’s crucial to note that their first goal is to debate Pochettino’s future at the end of the season.”
