Sheffield Wednesday beat Plymouth Argyle 1-0 on Tuesday night with another controversial talking point for fans.

Sheffield Wednesday defeated Plymouth Argyle 1-0 in the Championship on Tuesday night, prompting another heated debate among fans.

Sheffield Wednesday welcomed Plymouth Argyle to Hillsborough in the Championship on Tuesday night.

The Owls were looking to extend their three-game winning streak with a 1-0 victory against Rotherham United on Saturday, with the margin to safety at three points at the start of the night.

Plymouth Argyle entered this game with only a five-point lead over the drop zone following a disastrous run of form in which they had won only one of their previous six games.

And the first half of tonight’s game was similar to the Owls’ encounter against Rotherham, with Danny Rohl’s team dominating but going into half-time level when a goal was ruled off.

Fortunately, it didn’t matter because Sheffield Wednesday won 1-0, thanks to a second-half goal from Djeidi Gassama.

Ian Poveda denied the first Sheffield Wednesday goal.

Ian Poveda scored midway through the first half.

Djeidi Gassama sliced a high Plymouth defence open with a darting ball through to the onrushing Pol Valentin, who squared it to Poveda for what could have been his first goal in blue and white.

The goal was disallowed for offside. However, similar to Akin Famewo’s ruled-out goal against Rotherham, it appears that this one was also onside.

Journalist Joe Crann shared the following image of the goal on X:

Another big victory, but no thanks to the authorities.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently on a roll.

The atmosphere at Hillsborough was electric as the Owls defeated Plymouth to win their fourth consecutive league game, an achievement that would have been unthinkable at the start of the season.

Poveda shone out tonight, and it would have been a memorable night for him if he had finished strong with a well-taken goal.

And based on the information shown above, it appears that the officials made a mistake on the Poveda goal, which could have been corrected by VAR.

However, it didn’t matter in the end. However, if Sheffield Wednesday had not persisted in games against Rotherham and now Plymouth, some crucial points may have been lost unfairly.

As long as these kind of occurrences continue to occur, there will be a constant push for VAR, or at least better officiating in the NFL.

Sheffield Wednesday are currently, improbably, level on points with Stoke City, Huddersfield Town, and QPR, and only two points behind Plymouth, who remain in 16th place.
