Seattle Seahawks wide receiver who carried a cap hit of $27 million in 2024 will take considerably less

Tyler Lockett is staying in Seattle. According to NFL Media, the veteran wideout will stay with the Seahawks after reaching an agreement to restructure his contract. The deal is worth $30 million over two years, with a maximum value of $34 million and over $13 million guaranteed this year, according to the report.

Lockett, 31, had two years and $34 million left on a four-year, $69 million deal that he signed in March 2021. Lockett’s cap charge for the next two years has been reduced from $53,790,000 to $30 million as a result of his restructuring. Lockett’s salary will be reduced from $27 million this season to between $15 million and $17 million as a result of contract renegotiation.

Lockett, a former third-round pick, has played his whole career with Seattle. He was named an All-Pro during his rookie season (in 2015) for his special teams abilities, returning a punt and a kickoff for touchdowns that year.

Lockett was a part-time starter on offense before becoming a full-time starter in 2018. He grabbed ten touchdowns that season and had at least 1,000 receiving yards in each of the following four seasons. Lockett caught 79 catches for 894 yards and five scores across 17 games last season.

Lockett is second only to Hall of Famer Steve Largent in franchise history in terms of career receiving yards (7,994), receptions (612), and touchdown catches (59).

Lockett has played a key role in the success of Seahawks quarterback Geno Smith, who has been chosen to the Pro Bowl each of the last two seasons. He is part of one of the NFL’s top receiving duos, along with D.K. Metcalf, who was named to his second Pro Bowl in 2023.

The Seahawks are anticipated to target linebackers, defensive tackles, and both offensive and defensive tackles in free agency and the draft. Seattle presently owns the 16th overall pick in the draft, which begins on Thursday, April 25.
