The 33 year old has provided an update on his contract situation at Portman Road with his deal expiring in the summer.

Speaking to TWTD, Ipswich Town shot-stopper Vaclav Hladky confirmed that conversations over his contract situation are currently underway, but nothing has been decided upon.

The goalie has had a more successful 2023/24 season than he could have anticipated at the outset of the season.

After falling behind Christian Walton in the pecking order last season, he appeared to spend much of this season on the bench.

Instead, he has been one of the first names on Kieran McKenna’s teamsheet, and he has done more than enough to earn a contract extension at Portman Road.

The position in the goalkeeping department at Ipswich is currently unknown, with both Hladky and Walton’s contracts expiring at the end of the season. The club does have the option to extend the latter’s contract for another 12 months after the summer, which gives McKenna’s team some security.

Still, both of these players may want to know their fates sooner rather than later, with off-field distractions unnecessary when attempting to clinch back-to-back promotions and compete with the likes of Leeds United and Southampton.

Hladky on Ipswich Town’s contract situation: “There is nothing done yet”

The Tractor Boys will want to sign their first-choice shot-stopper to a new contract as soon as possible, but no agreement appears to have been struck yet.

Speaking with TWTD, Hladky stated, “There isn’t much I can say. Obviously, there are negotiations, but they can take time, and nothing has been done so far.

“I’m in my ‘tunnel’ and all I want to do is focus on Cardiff tomorrow, which is natural for a player.

“The stuff around me, I have people to deal with.”

Hladky will seek clarity about his future, not only for financial reasons, but also for his mental health.

With this in mind, no one would blame him for focusing on addressing his contract problem, even though his current contract does not expire until the conclusion of the season.

However, the Tractor Boys are in a critical time of their season, and the goalie is correct to be concerned with what is occurring on the pitch rather than what is happening off it.

His efforts could mean the difference between Ipswich getting promoted to the Premier League and staying in the Championship.

This is a major reason why he must be entirely focused, as today’s game against Cardiff City could be critical.

Hladky has performed admirably thus far this season, but he cannot afford to rest on his laurels until the end of the season, when he may properly reflect on his accomplishments.

With contract talks underway, he’s definitely wanted by Ipswich, thus he shouldn’t be concerned about being released.
