Sheffield Wednesday is the subject of yet another FA inquiry, this one stemming from their Friday night 2-0 home loss to Leeds United. This announcement was made by the club this morning via a statement posted on their official website.
The Owls’ four-game winning streak in the Championship came to an end when they lost at home. But a passionate display might now be marred by the club being charged following an altercation in the fans.
What transpired at Hillsborough in this much awaited Yorkshire derby, then? We’ve looked more closely at the incident and the potential outcomes for Wednesday.
Following their loss to Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday was faced with another FA charge.
Now, it seems like Wednesday might be in a little bit of trouble. The Owls indicate that an inquiry is still underway in a statement they posted this morning on the team’s official website.
The incident happened in the second half of the match, just after the promotion-chasing Whites had taken a 2-0 lead thanks to Willy Gnonto.
After bottles from the Hillsborough Kop area were thrown at Illan Meslier, the FA will now investigate the activities of a small group of Wednesday supporters.
It’s claimed that the club are now at risk of FA sanctions for this act and other unsavoury incidents that have taken place at Hillsborough this season.
To begin with, the FA’s inquiry will incur additional needless expenses and may result in financial penalties for the team.
Wednesday have to clean up their act – although kick-off time didn’t help here
That’s hardly an excuse, and anyone found guilty ought to serve extended bans from Hillsborough; but, this kind of Yorkshire derby at eight o’clock at night was a surefire way to go wrong.
Some people enjoy Friday night football, but it does give some fans more time to spend at the pub!
Wednesday needs to tidy up their behavior. Leeds supporters faced backlash a few years ago after one of them stormed onto the field and violently attacked Wednesday goalie Chris Kirkland.
After the Leeds stopper seemed to quiet the home crowd, the Owls have now retaliated by hurling missiles at him.
This season, Danny Rohl is making every effort to keep Wednesday in the Championship. The Owls still have their composure, therefore the supporters must maintain their composure.
This, in our opinion, is not a good look for the football team, and anybody found guilty could find themselves in hot water and possibly face a lengthy ban from Hillsborough.
