Details on Tyrel Dodson’s Seahawks contract

Many of the Seattle Seahawks’ outside acquisitions are on one-year contracts, as has been the case in previous free agency seasons. This tendency continues with both of their new linebackers.

After signing former Miami Dolphins starter Jerome Baker to a one-year deal worth $7 million, it has been claimed that ex-Buffalo Bills linebacker Tyrel Dodson’s contract is worth up to $5.51 million, with a base value of $4.2 million.
We don’t have any further information on Baker’s contract (yet), but assuming it’s capped at $7 million, the cumulative maximum for both players is approximately $12.5 million. For contrast, Bobby Wagner’s Commanders contract is one year and $8 million, with $6.5 million guaranteed, whereas Jordyn Brooks’ Dolphins contract is three years and $26.25 million, with a $2.8 million cap hit in 2024.

In theory, at least for the 2024 season, the Seahawks will not cut costs at linebacker as they did at safety. By not re-signing Wagner, they became younger, but not necessarily cheaper in the short term, but Brooks’ remaining contract would make it slightly less expensive. This is more of an indication of the inevitable schematic adjustments that will occur with Mike Macdonald in charge of the defense. We must also consider the great possibility that the Seahawks will use draft picks on linebackers who could be cheaper, long-term solutions.
