On-loan Reggae Boy Omari Hutchinson admitted his future was uncertain after continuing his outstanding scoring form with a double for Ipswich Town in a 6-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend.
The 20-year-old joined newly promoted Championship side Ipswich on a season-long loan from Premier League giants Chelsea at the start of the season and has since emerged as one of the club’s finest performers, with eight goals and five assists.
Despite the fact that his fate for next season was uncertain, the pacey forward indicated he would have no reservations about returning to Portman Road.
“It will be a challenging one. I don’t know the answer to it. But maybe—I hope so,” Hutchinson replied.
“Listen, I can’t say where I’m going to play. We’ll find out in the summer what the best step is for me.
“I absolutely enjoy it here. “I’m glad I arrived.”
He continued, “It’s a difficult one. Look, it will be one of my possibilities if everyone agrees on it.
“But I can’t give you the correct answer right now. We’ll just have to wait and see in the summer.
“I’ll talk to my family and my agency, and we’ll see what the best decision is for me.”
Ipswich achieved direct promotion to the Championship after coming second behind Plymouth Argyle in League One last season. They have prospered in the higher league and are presently third with 81 points, one point behind leaders Leeds and Leicester City.
Hutchinson has played a vital role in the east England club’s success, particularly since the turn of the year, scoring five goals in his last nine games to be voted Championship Player of the Month for February.
However, he stated that his primary goal at the outset of the campaign was to obtain playing time rather than promotion.
“I didn’t anticipate it to be that amazing here. When I arrived, my goal was to acquire as much game time as possible, even if it meant sitting in the middle of the table, as long as I was receiving minutes and performing,” he said.
“When I first met with [manager Kieran] McKenna, he seemed like a great guy. He’s been through academies and development programs, so he understands how young people are.
“For me, it was the correct step. I didn’t care about promotion or anything like that. As long as we remained in the Championship, that was good with me, and I was getting minutes.”
Hutchinson, born in England and represented at the Under-17 and Under-19 levels for the Three Lions, has played two friendly for Jamaica but has not played since March last year.
