Arizona Cardinals Sign The 24 Year Old As Backup To Kyler Murray

Desmond Ridder, a former Falcons quarterback, has recently joined the Arizona Cardinals as the team’s second quarterback behind Kyler Murray.

Monti Ossenfort, the Cardinals’ general manager, said at a press conference that the quarterback “played a lot of ball” with the Falcons the previous two seasons.

Ossenfort told the Cardinals, “Desmond played a lot of ball the last two years, starting 17 games, so he has some experience. “There is no substitute for experience, especially at quarterback.”

He added, “We’re looking to bring competition to the roster. Adding Desmond to the room, along with Kyler and Clayton, gives us three men who will fight hard. They are all slightly different in shape, yet they can all do comparable things schematically.”

Tune was selected in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft as the 139th pick and has appeared in seven games. Murray was selected first overall in the 2019 NFL Draft. In his previous two seasons, Ridder has played in nineteen games for the Falcons, totaling 3,544 yards, 12 interceptions, and 14 touchdowns.

Jonathan Gannon, the head coach, also emphasized Ridder’s skill set. (He is a) huge guy. Arm talent. Mobility. Smart. Plays quickly. That was the first thing that stood out to me on the tape. And I knew we had to portray him, so rehearsing for him and talking to certain folks helped us understand the nature of the person, so he was a fantastic addition and what we were looking for there.”

Ridder, the two-time ACC Offensive Player of the Year, is likewise excited about his future with the Cardinals, saying, “We just want to make the most of any opportunity with my career and my life in general.” It did not work out, but God works in mysterious ways, and we are now in beautiful Arizona.” Ridder spent 2022-2023 with the Falcons before moving on to the Arizona Cardinals.
