West Ham United have confirmed the centre-back has signed a new long contract

West Ham United has announced that Josh Briggs has signed his first professional contract in East London.

On Thursday (March 21), the Hammers reported on their official website that Briggs signed his first professional deal earlier this month.

David Moyes’ team signed the 18-year-old from NIFL Premiership club Linfield in August 2022.

Briggs was born in North Belfast and, having graduated from the Irish FA JD Academy, has committed his career to the London Stadium.

West Ham and David Moyes should be quite excited about Josh Briggs at the London Stadium.

Some fans may know little about Briggs, but they only need to know that this is an exciting announcement.

Briggs, a Northern Ireland Under-19 international, had a significant impact in his first season in England.

After signing with the club, the centre-back made 18 appearances in the 2022/23 season, helping the Hammers win the FA Youth Cup and the Under-18 Premier League South.

Briggs also made an impact in the final, scoring in the 90th minute as West Ham defeated Arsenal’s Under-18s 5-1 to win the prized cup (25 April 2023).

Briggs, now a second-year scholar, has started this season with 14 games in the Under-18 Premier League South, scoring twice.

If he continues down this route, it won’t be long until the defender is playing for David Moyes at the London Stadium.
