Following the issuance of an arrest warrant for cornerback Cam Sutton, the Detroit Lions have made a decision on his future.
On Thursday, the Lions confirmed that Sutton had been released. The ruling came one day after the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida requested the public’s assistance in locating Sutton, who is wanted on a domestic violence charge.
Sutton, 29, faces a charge of domestic abuse by strangulation. The warrant was issued on March 7, after Sutton was accused of beating a woman and fleeing the scene. Police have been unable to trace him since. The Lions were apparently worried enough by the claims to decide his release was necessary.
Sutton agreed to a three-year, $33 million contract with the Lions last summer. He started all 17 regular-season games and three playoff games for the club. Sutton recorded 60 total tackles, an interception, and a forced fumble in his only season with the team.
