Birmingham City have made their first significant transfer decision since appointing Gary Rowett as interim manager.
Striker Ben Beresford has been recalled from his loan spell at Gloucester City. When he joined last winter, the loan was supposed to be for a month, but it was extended to the rest of the season in February.
The 19-year-old had been with the Tigers since November 2023, but he is now back with the Blues till the end of the season. Players on loan to clubs outside the EFL can move up until late March, and Beresford may now be eligible to play for the first team.
In a statement released on Friday afternoon, the club stated: “The club can confirm that striker Ben Beresford has returned to parent club @BCFC, bringing an end to his fantastic loan with the club.” Thank you, and good luck, Ben.”
Beresford was their highest scorer, with 13 goals in all competitions this season. His recall has dealt a significant blow to Gloucester, who are trying to maintain their National League North status. They have been involved in a relegation struggle, and with only seven games remaining in the season, they are nine games away from safety.
During his tenure at TigerTurf Stadium, he played alongside Zach Jeacock, who was with Birmingham until his release in February. The centre-forward is under contract with Blues until the summer of 2025 and has been with the club for the past four seasons, joining on a scholarship from Basford United.
In other news, the under-18s team faces Swansea City this weekend. The young Blues will play in the Professional Development League at Swansea’s Landore training complex on Saturday, March 23 at 12 p.m. Birmingham are currently leading the North table and have won their previous six matches.
